Children in Nepal are mostly employed in child day labor and this has to be stopped. Literacy rate in Nepal is much below par and this demonstrates the failing of the government to provide proper education to the children. To make matter worse, the Nepalese government, which is internally fractionalized and crippled by Maoist demands of democracy, is helpless to do anything in spite of realizing the seriousness of the problem.

Nepal is fighting to keep its economy on the surface and it appears that the ruthless policy of employing children as young as 5 years is rapidly rolling into play. With 2.6 million children between the age of the 5 and 14 years being pushed into the abyss of child labor, the observation of the 18th International Child Rights Day in the Nepali capital of Katmandu is nothing more than a dim show to eclipse the ugly scars beneath.

Just tall talks of fighting child labor won’t do any good to the 27,000 children who are engaged in the worst of child labor. Actions have to be taken with no delay to crush the problem. Otherwise the already bleak future of Nepal could get even worse.
